Library Column for September 27, 2024

@ Your Library

October is right around the corner. We have lots of exciting programs coming up including Heck of a Deal on Saturday, October 5th at 1:30 pm. Brian and Sue Matuszak will be returning to tell stories of Minnesota artists and the public artworks they created throughout the Arrowhead region during the Federal Art Project. This project which began in 1935 was sponsored by the Works Progress Administration of President Roosevelt. The program for teens and adults is funded in part or in whole by a grant from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

A new Libratory STEAM take-home bag will be available for elementary aged students beginning October 1. Each month we create a science experiment for families to do at home and provide you with the necessary supplies to do it.

Elementary students are also welcome to join us on Wednesday afternoons from 3 – 4:30 pm for Elementary Fun. This weekly program is simply time to continue learning through play. We’ll offer a rotating schedule of activities as well as a snack each week. No registration needed and students are welcome to come when they are able.

Crafters’ Café meets on alternate Tuesdays from 11 am – 1 pm and in October the group will be meeting on October 8 and 22. Bring whatever craft or art project you want, grab a cup of tea (or coffee) and spend time chatting and working on a project. No pressure, just time to work and with Christmas rapidly approaching time is needed.

Storytime meets on Thursday mornings at 10:30 am. This weekly program focused on children ages 3 – 5, but all are welcome provides an opportunity to begin learning in a group setting and be introduced to books, reading and rhymes. Storytime runs about 30 minutes and then is followed by about 30 minutes of free play with our early learning toys.

Once a month we offer a Saturday storytime which is a repeat of the previous Thursday storytime for any who are unable to attend on Thursdays. Saturday October 12th at 10:30 am will be storytime, followed by playtime.

Finally, we continue to host the silent book club on the second Monday of each month. Join us on Monday, October 14th at 6:30 pm for a treat and a cup of something warm, time to chat about reading and then read for an hour in a comfy chair in a quiet building. A very nice way to spend an hour.
