@ Your Library
Happy hunting to all who go out seeking deer. Stay safe. A reminder that the library has a meat grinder if you need to grind that meat for burgers or soups. We also have a food vacuum sealer available. They may be borrowed for a week and need to be thoroughly cleaned before returning.
Grab some books to take with you as you spend time out in the woods this November. We have several folks who have already been in and stocked up for their weeks in the woods. Don’t miss out on great reading time, be prepared and always have a book with you.
We have a variety of non-fiction about hunting for both adults and youth. Fiction is not as common, but we have two series for youth. “Lucky Luke’s Hunting Adventures” by Kevin Lovegreen has titles about hunting deer, elk, turkey and bear. Emily Hay Hinsdale has a series called “Wilderness Adventures” that also have some hunting titles. Gary Paulsen’s Tracker and Mary Casanova’s Wolf Shadows are also both about hunting.
Of course, Poachers Caught and More Poachers Caught by Tom Chapin are great reads anytime of the year and would be lots of fun read-aloud. Raising Hackles on the Hattie’s Fork and other tales of mishaps and misdeeds while fishing and hunting in the North Woods by Kent Cowgill sounds like a great read aloud in the evenings back in the shack that will lead to lots of personal stories being share as well. A classic author for reading aloud about outdoor adventure hijinks is Patrick McManus. We have some of his titles available in both physical books and audio book formats. Start a family tradition of reading or listening to outdoor adventure stories at the shack. Challenge everyone to bring a story to share.
If you don’t want hunting stories stop by the library and check out our new shelves for the latest titles available. If you have a specific title in mind, you are welcome to call and we’ll see if it is on our shelves, but don’t be surprised that if you want to read it, someone else does as well and it may be checked out. We own four of the top five New York Times Bestseller fiction titles and all four have waiting lists including Waiting by Michael Connelly, Counting Miracles by Nicholas Sparks, The Women by Kristin Hannah and Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarrow. Let us know if you’d like to be added to any of these wait lists.
Saturday storytime is tomorrow at 10:30 am. Families with young children are welcome to join us for approximately 30 minutes of stories, rhymes and more about farms, followed by play time with our early learning toys.
The library will be closed on Monday, November 11th in observance of Veterans’ Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, November 12th. Our hours are Monday – Wednesday 10 am – 8 pm, Thursday and Friday 10 am – 6 pm and Saturday 10 am – 3 pm.
