Merry Christmas! May your holiday be filled with good food, wonderful times with family and friends and plenty of time for reading great books! Hopefully everyone got at least one book or magazine subscription for the holidays and is looking forward to spending time this winter reading.
Our Library of Things collection keeps growing. We add things based on patron recommendations. Do you have a hobby you want to try, a kitchen tool you would only use once a year or something else that you’d like to borrow and not buy? Please come talk to us (before you need the item) and we’ll see if we can provide it. We recently added snowshoes for the whole family (at least those individuals between 30 – 300 pounds). They check out for a week at a time. Discover how much winter is improved by getting outside and into the fresh air. Borrow our light meter and see how dark the sky is, or borrow the telescope and be amazed at what you can see in the night sky.
We are also in the process of adding some additional yard games after they spent much of the summer checked out. We are adding bocce ball and Kubb. As we enter the new year, begin planning your summer reunions and include game time.
If you are looking for a new holiday tradition, Jolabokaflod, or Christmas Book Flood in English is an Icelandic tradition of giving books to open on Christmas Eve, followed by an evening and night spent cozily reading. Sounds like my kind of tradition. While you may not be able to give a book this year if you haven’t already bought one. You could encourage everyone to open Hoopla or Libby apps and find a book to read or listen to. Hoopla has a wide assortment of holiday titles from ‘Merry Rom-Coms’ like 12 Men for Christmas by Phillipa Ashley and A Miracle on Hope Street by Emma Heatherington to ‘Holiday Classics’ with titles by popular authors such a L.M. Montgomery, L. Frank Baum and Louisa May Alcott to ‘Holiday Mysteries’ with titles such as Christmas Dessert Murder by Joanne Fluke, A Murder Yule Regret by Winnie Archer and Christmas Card Murder by Leslie Meier. And don’t let the kids feel left out with plenty to keep them busy as well with A Tuba Christmas by Helen Wilbur, A Very Fiona Christmas by Richard Cowdrey and A Warm Winter Tail by Carrie A Pearson.
Lots of popular authors have new titles out, stop by and see what is checked in and currently available. I hesitate to name names as those books will inevitably be out when you stop by.
The library will be closed for the Christmas holiday through Monday, December 27th. We will be open Tuesday and Wednesday, December 28 and 29 from 10 am – 8pm and Thursday, December 30 from 10 am – 6pm. We will then be closed Friday and Saturday, December 31 and January 1 for the New Year’s holiday.
