Check out our traveling exhibit from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Pollinators, “Bee Aware” emphasizes the importance of pollinators in our daily lives, their challenges to survival, and ways we can help them. Several interactive components provide fun opportunities to explore pollinators. It will be in the library lobby until May 20th. A number of books and movies are also available to borrow about pollinators and their importance or ways to help pollinators.
The Friends of the Library are soliciting new members to support Library programming. Pick up a membership form in the library lobby and help them support the library with your donation. You can also support the Friends of the Library and the library by shopping at their book sales and donating money for the books you take. The next book sale will be Monday, June 13th from 3 – 5pm.
The library still has seeds available if you are interested in a small garden or patio pots. We have both herbs and vegetable seeds available. Again, stop by the library and take a look at what is available and make a selection to try.
No storytime, scavenger hunts or Libratory bags during the month of May. We are getting things ready for summer programming. But you are always welcome to come in to browse materials to borrow or read here. And the junior room has a variety of puzzles and other activities out in the room to engage in and of course there are a number of kits and games that can be borrowed and used at home.
There have been several spectactular sky events lately. Learn how to be a backyard astronomer with The Backyard Astronomer’s Guide. This 4th edition completely revised and expanded by Terence Dickinson and Alan Dyer will answer questions, provide equipment and software recommendations and includes a section on astrophotography. Maybe borrow the book and our astrophotography kit that comes with a telescope.
Audiobooks are a great way to listen to terrific stories of all kinds. Many of you stream or download them through Libby and Hoopla. You can also listen to them on compact disc (CDs), but those are going away. So the library is transitioning to Playaways. No additional equipment is needed to listen to these audiobooks. Plug in headphones or an auxilliary cable and play through your cars speakers and listen, listen, listen. We have titles available for all ages on a variety of topics and interests. Haven’t been able to get your hands on the latest Amor Towle book, The Lincoln Highway? We have it on Playaway sitting on the shelf just waiting for you. Enjoy classics like Spring’s Gentle Promise by Janette Oke or Kerplunk by Patrick McManus. Enjoy new titles like Northland: a 4,000 mile journey along America’s forgotten border by Porter Fox, Walking to Listen: 4,000 miles across America, one story at a time by Andrew Forsthoefel or The Widow Queen by Elizabeth Cherezinska a novel about an almost forgotten Polish queen.
