September is here whether we are ready for it or not. I hope everyone will be able to spend some time this weekend preparing for the coming school year whether you have children starting back to school this fall or not. Fall can be an excellent time to re-evaluate habits and start anew.
Are you reading regularly? Daily? Are you learning new things regularly? These are all habits that help keep your brain healthy. Reading also improves empathy and if done before bed can improve sleep quality. Let us know if you need reading recommendations. We love matching books with readers.
The library wants to help you keep learning. We have lots of books and kits that will help you explore something new or expand your knowledge of a subject. There are also a variety of online resources that are available whenever you want to learn. Most require the use of your library card number so keep your card handy.
Brainfuse is online homework help with live tutors available in math, science, reading and writing, social studies and standardized testing. Skill building resources are available along with a writing lab and other eLearning tools. Adults will also find resources to help with GED preparation, MS Office and more. The Arrowhead Library System also provides access to area residents to JobNow! This is the job search portion of Brainfuse. It provides experienced career coaches with resources to help job searchers in all stages of the job search.
LinkedInLearning is an online learning platform to help anyone learn business, software, technology and creative skills to achieve personal or professional goals. Take individual classes, or earn an entire certificate in a variety of business or software areas. Learn the business side of running a small creative business, improve your photography skills, learn the ins and outs of Microsoft software and so much more is available anytime you are ready to dive in.
Mango Languages is a fun, engaging way to learn over 75 different languages. Each course offers about a year of language learning. Take a dip into the international waters and prepare to visit the world. This site can be accessed via a computer or download the app and start learning, you will need your library card to proceed beyond the first lesson.
Creative Bug is another online resource provided to area residents by the Arrowhead Library System and gives cardholders access to thousands of online art and craft video classes. The classes include projects for all skill levels and vary from specific projects to art and craft skills that can be used in multiple projects. Learn to knit, crochet or embroider, watch a class on making an origami frog or other creatures. There are also watercolor and oil painting tutorials.
The library will be closed on Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor Day. Winter hours will begin on Tuesday, September 5th. Monday – Wednesday 10 am – 8 pm, Thursday and Friday 10 am – 6pm and Saturday 10 am – 3 pm.
