Happy New Year! (almost). The library will be closed on Monday, January 1 with regular hours resuming on Tuesday, January 2. Stop by before 3 pm on Saturday to pick up any board games, movies or books you might need to get you through the end of the year.
Our courtyard doors (east side) are open again! You can enter the building either through the parking lot doors or through the courtyard between the library and city hall. Next spring landscaping will need to be done, but the stairs are completed.
Parents of first – eighth graders, many of your students will be participating in a winter reading program through their classes. Your students need your encouragement to spend fifteen minutes reading on Saturday and Sunday. Make a resolution to spend time every day reading together as a family. Read silently or read aloud, just read! And bring them to the library if they need help finding material to read.
As the year winds down, take time to reflect on your accomplishments of the past year (and surviving is certainly an accomplishment) and time to think about what you want to accomplish in the New Year. Even if you don’t accomplish all you set out to do, without an idea about what you want to do with your life will make it hard to do much more than survive and we are capable of so much more. Even if your goal is to be healthy, to learn to make one new recipe, to call one old friend, those things won’t happen if you haven’t thought about them. And if you have goals that the library can help with, please stop by and see us.
We are in the process of adding a variety of ‘learn to…’ kits, including one on soldering. We’ve already added a quilling, metal stamping, and woodburning kits and are looking at knitting, embroidery, crochet and are open to other options. Let us know if you have something you want to learn this year and we’ll see if we can put together a basic kit.
Storytime will resume on Thursday, January 4th at 10:30 am with stories about birthdays. Storytime the rest of January will look at winter, clothing and winter again. There are so many great stories about wintertime.
Lots of fun activities to participate in around Icebox Days. The library will work with 3rd St. businesses to post a story stroll and with Rotary to host a scavenger hunt of their Little Wee Libraries. Saturday, January 27th from 10 – 2 we’ll host another game day at the library. Join us for a variety of fun, silly, and maybe even educational board games. All ages are welcome, ages 8 and under need to be accompanied by an adult. Please be here by 11am if you want to be included in the pizza lunch.
