It is the tail end of National Library Week. Celebrate your library by visiting it and borrowing something, anything from books, to movies to magazines to popcorn poppers to cotton candy machines to meat grinders to dementia care kits. The Friends of the Library are soliciting new members. Pick up a membership form at the library if you didn’t receive one in the mail or download a form at internationalfallslibrary.us/services/friends-of-the-library. Membership fees are $10 for individuals, $20 for families and $40 for organizations. The Friends of the Library provide all funding for library programming. Your support is so valuable to us.
Check out the lobby display this month. Students from Minnesota North College, Rainy River campus art students have work on display. I love being able to share student artwork.
Join us tomorrow, Saturday, April 13th for Saturday storytime at 10:30 am. Saturday storytime is only monthly and is repeat of the Thursday storytime, but we are hoping to catch families that work and encourage them with good books, fun activities and great learning opportunities. Pick up a copy of the April take out craft which is origami butterflies. Create a flutter of butterflies to cheer us into nice spring weather. The junior room also has Libratory kits available for elementary students.
We have a wonderful opportunity to share with you. Are you dealing with grief, struggling to figure out the world in this new reality? Then put Saturday, April 27th on your calendar and spend three hours with Lisa M. Bolt Simons who will provide writing prompts, videos and reading excerpts to assist those grieving. Please call us and reserve a spot if you’d like to attend this workshop on April 27th from 10:30 – 1:30 pm. We’d love to have anyone interested participate. You are asked to bring a snack or lunch, writing tools (notebook, pen and/or laptop) and photos of your loved ones. Lisa M. Bolt Simons is a fiscal year 2023 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
The library continues to work with the Friends of the Library to support young readers, we work with the schools to support learners, we work with a variety of agencies and community groups to support the community. Please let us know how we can support your learning and entertainment needs. We want to be an indispensable part of this community. We believe that all of us are better when we read and the more readers a community has the better the community as reading improves empathy.
The library thanks the community for its wonderful support over the years. I have been here over twenty years and have loved sharing books and so much more with the community. We love having you visit and borrow materials to improve your life.
