Hopefully by the time you read this, my crocus will have bloomed. I was able to visit Keukonhof Gardens in the Netherlands this spring during their tulip festival and it was magnificent. But that made it hard to come back here to cold, wet weather with brown, muddy ground and nothing growing yet. I am ready for life to burst forth from the ground.
In the meantime, I am excited about the programs the library is able to offer to the community. Saturday, April 27th from 10:30 – 1:30 we are offering a grief writing workshop with Lisa M. Bolt Simons. Registration is not required, but requested so we know how many to expect. Please bring whatever you want to write with (notebook and pen/pencil, or laptop), photos of loved ones and a snack. Lisa M. Bolt Simons is a fiscal year 2023 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
Then Tuesday, April 30th at 7:00 pm an evening of online conversation with Retired Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page and his daughter, Georgi Page-Smith discussing the exhibit “Testify: Americana from Slavery to Today.” Register for this program at bit.ly/TESTIFYconversation or visit the library for a QR code link. I heard Alan Page speak at a library conference and he was wonderful to listen to and learn from. I encourage anyone with an interest in U.S. history to register for this conversation.
Storytime will continue on Thursday mornings through May 2 when we will take a break to prep for summer programming and encourage families to get outside and hopefully enjoy the weather. Libratory bags are available for elementary students and origami butterfly patterns are available for teens and adults.
Put Saturday, May 4th, 10:30 am on your calendar as a dinosaur party at the library! Local author, Cheryl Peterson has a new book being released this month called Bonedigger’s Daughter and we want to celebrate with a dinosaur party. Join us for a variety of dinosaur activities along with information about the new book and the opportunity to buy it.
Where do you go for information about what is happening in town? We spread the word about library programs on our online calendar of events, through this column, on Facebook and Instagram pages and on our doors. If you know of other places that won’t take a lot of time to prepare we are willing to include information elsewhere as well.
I have been in a bit of a reading slump, or more accurately reading some very heavy titles, so am reading more slowly than I like as I read and ponder. But I am looking forward to reading some youth titles in the next few weeks so that I can talk about them to students before they head off for summer break.
