July 11, 2018 – International Falls Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes

Present: Library Director Diane Adams, Darcy Sullivan, Paul Nevanen, Dick Peterson, Ted Saxton, Mary Jo Winkel, Lindsi Barnhart

Dick Peterson called the meeting to order: 4:30 p.m.

Review of June meeting minutes. Winkel made a motion to approve the minutes, Barnhart seconded, motion approved.

Financial Report: The current bills were reviewed. Nevanen made a motion to pay the bills, Sullivan seconded, motion carried with Saxton abstaining. Winkel signed to pay the bills.

Director’s Report:  June circulation was a very disappointing 5,221, which while above May 2018 was 18% below June 2017.  We have not seen much of an increase in the number of school age kids utilizing the book collection of the junior room this summer.  We have had a few busy moments but nothing like we used to see. It wasn’t that many years ago that we circulated over 10,000 items in June and July. Storytime attendance has been fairly solid at 20 – 25 each session.  We had over 100 attend the Magic show provided by Arrowhead Library system. We continue to take the library to Backus for lunch once a week.  Limited response, but most weeks one or two kids find something of interest to borrow. I am slowly getting a better response at both the Villa and Good Samaritan Northwinds facilities and the Community Café dinner once a month. I am hoping that by consistently being there people will begin to use the service.

Old Business: Upcoming Programs: Juggler Sean Emery will perform on Thursday, July 12 at 10:30am. Climb Theater will present the City Mouse and the Country Mouse on Tuesday, July 17th at 10:30am.

Fan Jam: Haven’t heard back from basketball boosters, will try to contact again. Indus third grade teacher is very interested in program to promote reading with third graders, have connected with St. Thomas third grade and one third grade teacher at FES (only one we’ve seen at library).

Still need to make contact with a contractor and see if we can get a bid on converting space upstairs to a recording studio.
